In a surprising move, Kelowna city council has rejected a proposal for a six-storey, 67-unit apartment building at 1064-1084 Glenmore Drive, citing concerns over excessive density. The developer proposed rezoning three properties from RU1 – large lot residential to MF3R – Apartment Housing Rental. Despite being located on a transit-supportive corridor where higher density is typically encouraged, council found the site too constricted.

Key concerns included the narrowness of the lane and the lack of provisions for moving vehicles. Councillors highlighted the site’s restrictive nature due to its corner location potential safety issues for pedestrians using the narrow alley. Some voiced a different vision for the area, suggesting it is more suitable for townhouse developments to better accommodate families. In a decisive vote, the council turned down the development 7-1.
