Kelowna city council has approved rezoning for five development projects and issuing a development permit for a sixth, resulting in 367 new units, with at least 281 designated as rentals.

Here’s a quick rundown of the projects:

  • Rutland Road and Mugford: A six-storey mixed-use building with commercial spaces on the ground floor and 65 rental apartments above.
  • Saucier Avenue: A development of 70 units, combining a four-storey apartment building and three storeys of stacked townhomes.
  • Monterey Court: Eight townhomes on a 0.41-acre lot.
  • Vista Road: A six-storey rental apartment complex with 99 units.
  • Lanfranco Road: Rezoning for eight townhouse units on two lots.
  • Valleyview Road: A six-storey building with 117 units, received a development permit.

This move is anticipated to help mitigate Kelowna’s housing challenges while enhancing neighbourhood dynamics. Just recently, the BC government announced 5-year housing targets for 10 municipalities, including Kelowna.
