UBC is expanding its presence in Surrey City Centre, with plans for a campus that could rival SFU’s Surrey campus in size. In November 2021, UBC Properties Trust acquired a three-acre property at 9770 King George Boulevard for $70 million, strategically located near King George SkyTrain Station and Surrey Memorial Hospital. In addition to this site, UBC has also acquired an adjacent 2.1-acre property at 9666 King George Boulevard for $40.5 million, expanding the future campus footprint.

Preliminary renderings reveal a potential layout featuring multiple towers and a pedestrian-friendly plaza. The architectural firm Perkins&Will is leading the design work. While specifics are still uncertain, UBC aims to include residential and commercial spaces alongside academic facilities. UBC’s vision includes serving at least 10,000 students in the long term. The proximity between UBC’s future campus and the surrounding Health and Technology District by the Lark Group, may provide opportunities for collaboration in research and innovation.

UBC’s expansion extends beyond Surrey, with ongoing developments in Kelowna and over $3.4 billion earmarked for capital projects through 2040.
