Thompson Rivers University (TRU) in Kamloops is finalizing a funding application for a new student-housing building on Summit Drive. Following the opening of the Coyote Den residence last fall, plans for two more buildings are underway. The second, 75-bed building’s design is at 30%, awaiting provincial funding. Costing around $26 million, it will likely use a hybrid construction approach, combining stick construction with modular elements. The third building’s details are less defined and will require separate ministry submission.

TRU’s housing plans hinge on international enrollment trends, with efforts to accommodate more students on campus. Despite a potential decrease in international students due to recent permit changes, TRU remains confident in housing demand. International applications have dropped 50-70% but the university awaits fall enrollment numbers for clarity.
