Toronto faces a scarcity of housing, especially affordable options. A new ‘Housing Now’ project on Eglinton Avenue East in Scarborough aims to tackle this issue. The proposal involves three towers, including a 31-storey building, with a total of 919 units. One third will be affordable co-op units, a significant contribution to addressing the city’s housing crisis. The project is expected to be one of Ontario’s largest affordable housing developments in the past 25 years. Situated near transit hubs, the project aims to revitalize the Scarborough Centre community.

Despite initial criticism, the City’s Housing Now program is gaining momentum, with several sites moving towards construction. Overall, the program aims to deliver over 16,000 new homes across 22 sites, with a focus on affordable rental units.
