Mayor Dean Murdock highlighted the benefits, including a faster and more predictable development process, shortening it by about 18 months.
The Uptown Douglas plan, adopted in 2022, seeks to create a vibrant, walkable city center, focusing on transportation accessibility and mixed-use development. It also aims to promote affordable residential units through density bonuses, encouraging consultation with property owners. The zoning changes are anticipated to be presented to the council by late fall.
