Canada’s Budget 2024 aims to alleviate the financial strain on young families, particularly millennials, caused by childcare expenses. The $10-a-day childcare initiative, backed by nearly $40 billion in federal funding, has significantly increased women’s workforce participation and eased financial burdens on families. To further expand affordable childcare, the Canadian government is providing Ontario with $201.87 million, part of a $625 million Early Learning and Child Care Fund, to create 86,000 new child care spaces by 2026, especially targeting underserved communities. Additional measures include a Child Care Expansion Loan Program, student loan forgiveness for rural educators, increased training for early childhood educators, and improved childcare access for military families. With over 750,000 children already benefiting from affordable childcare and plans for over 100,000 new spaces announced, Canada is progressing towards its goal of creating 250,000 new spaces by March 2026.
