Nearly 2,000 affordable rental homes are set to be constructed in Metro Vancouver, thanks to partnerships between the Province and local non-profit housing providers.

Premier David Eby stressed the importance of accessible housing, emphasizing the government’s commitment to swiftly addressing the housing crisis through initiatives like the Community Housing Fund (CHF). Seventeen projects in Metro Vancouver, selected through the CHF’s third intake, will offer 1,954 homes catering to various demographics, including individuals, families, seniors, people with disabilities, and Indigenous communities. Minister of Housing Ravi Kahlon highlighted the significance of the Homes for People action plan and the CHF in delivering affordable housing promptly. The announcement featured a project in Surrey by Kekinow Native Housing Society, aiming to provide safe and affordable housing for Indigenous communities.

Including these projects, the Province, through BC Housing, has identified over 40 new projects, totaling approximately 3,500 affordable rental homes. The CHF, a $3.3-billion investment, targets to build over 20,000 affordable rental homes by 2031-32, with future funding calls anticipated to support non-profit providers.
