Residents of Mississauga are rallying against a proposed 11-storey, 178-unit condo development next to Richard’s Memorial Park at 900 Lakeshore Rd. W. . Since its introduction in December, the plan has faced strong opposition, leading to a petition called “Halt the Construction of a Condo Tower Threatening Our Lakefront Parkland,” which has garnered almost 800 signatures as of May 16. Concerns focus on increased traffic, environmental damage, and disruption to local wildlife.

During a city meeting on December 18, KFA Architects and Planners presented the proposal, highlighting the under-utilized 50,611 square-foot lot currently housing a single detached home. The plan includes a mix of studio to three-bedroom units in a triangle-shaped building.

Despite the backlash, some community members argue that new housing developments are necessary to address high rents and real estate costs. However, the majority disapprove of the condo’s size, design, and proximity to the park.
