The province has approved $175 million for the replacement of Mission Secondary School, targeting classrooms for students by 2028 and full completion by 2029-2030. The new school will accommodate 1,500 students, including features like an Indigenous education center and child care. Excitement surrounds the project, with MPSD and MLA support. Design work is underway, with a focus on simplicity to expedite the process. With potential future growth in mind, the ministry aims to accommodate Mission’s needs with increased capacity. Students will continue in the current building until the new one is ready, which will then replace the existing school. Funds were initially allocated in March 2023, with ongoing discussions and planning since then.
