Affordable housing is getting a boost in Metro Vancouver thanks to a partnership between the Province and Metro Vancouver. The second phase of the Homes for People action plan, through BC Housing and Metro Vancouver Housing, will create about 670 below-market rental units. Sites include:

  • 1144 Inlet St., Coquitlam (Malaspina Village Phase 2)
  • Old Dollarton Road and Riverside Drive, North Vancouver (Riverside Drive)
  • 2933 Heather St., Vancouver (Heather Place C)
  • 100 Nelson St., Coquitlam (Park Court)

This effort follows an memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in spring 2023, aiming for 2,000 affordable rentals over ten years at priority sites. A third phase is planned to start in 2028, with more details to come.

Metro Vancouver Housing, a major non-profit housing provider in B.C. since 1974, manages over 3,400 affordable rental homes across 49 sites, serving nearly 10,000 people. These projects are part of a $19-billion housing investment by the BC government, which has delivered or is in progress with nearly 78,000 homes province-wide, including around 40,000 in Metro Vancouver since 2017.
