A development proposal for the area around the old Black Mountain school in Kelowna, which was converted into a liquor store last year, is under review. The proposal aims to rezone the five-acre property around the liquor store to the Village Centre zone. Plans include a six-story building with 148 residential units and commercial space, featuring a McDonald’s, Petro-Canada gas station and car wash, and a 15,000 square foot multi-tenanted building. Surface parking for 74 stalls and underground parking for 140 stalls would be provided.

The proposal emphasizes managing urban sprawl and integrating residential, commercial, and recreational spaces. If approved, the development could enhance the neighborhood and create job opportunities. The proposal is set to go before the city council later this year.
