The Kamloops council voted to approve a rezoning application for the Tournament Inn property in Valleyview, paving the way for a mixed-use development. The plan includes an 80-room hotel and a 60-unit residential building. While some residents expressed concerns about transportation upgrades during the public hearing, the project aligns with the city’s official community plan, aiming to enhance density in commercial zones. Locals noted the need for improvements in sidewalks and road networks, with concerns about increased traffic. However, developers are expected to fund these enhancements alongside their projects.

The city’s transportation master plan includes future sidewalk construction along the frontage road, with a transit exchange planned for Oriole Road and Falcon Road. Despite acknowledged deficiencies in walkability and cycling infrastructure, council members unanimously supported the rezoning as a step towards neighborhood improvement.
