The old Northbridge Hotel building located at 377 Tranquille Rd. in North Kamloops is making way for new rental homes aimed at middle-income families. The property, owned by the City of Kamloops, is part of the BC Builds initiative, which aims to create affordable rental housing by leveraging public land and funding. BC Premier David Eby highlighted the collaboration between public landowners and developers in transforming unused land into rental homes. The Tranquille Road property is among eight parcels earmarked for future BC Builds projects, with the goal of ensuring middle-income households spend no more than 30% of their income on rent.

The City of Kamloops seeks a developer to build purpose-built rentals on the site, with the submission deadline set for June 28, 2024. Once complete, the project will offer rental units for income-producing purposes, with a focus on sustainability and community benefit. Another potential housing project, the Columbia Precinct land, is also under consideration by the city for various housing developments.
