Residents in Mississauga are opposing a proposed townhouse development on the site of a former school located at 2620 Chalkwell Close. Elmcrest Public School closed in 2016 due to low enrollment, and now there’s an application to build 180 residential units and 402 parking spaces on the property. The development, proposed by Dunpar Homes, would consist of 12 blocks of four-story back-to-back townhouses. While the property is zoned for detached homes, the developer argues that it’s under-utilized. However, the Park Royal Community Association is pushing back with a petition, concerned about the height of the townhomes and the potential impact on traffic and the local community.

A public meeting on the project is scheduled for June 25 at 6 p.m. to discuss the project.
