The federal government is injecting $9 million into a new pedestrian bridge, called Equinox Bridge, linking downtown Toronto’s waterfront to Villiers Island across the Keating Channel. Mayor Olivia Chow presented her vision for the Port Lands during the funding announcement, emphasizing the bridge’s role in connecting communities and enhancing the area’s appeal. The 120-meter-long bridge, east of downtown, will feature a design chosen through a competitive process involving international and local architects, as well as Indigenous consultants.

Waterfront Toronto emphasizes the bridge’s role in linking thousands of new homes and green spaces, facilitating access for both residents and visitors. The bridge is expected to complete in 2026. As part of the broader revitalization plans for the Port Lands, completion of flood protection is expected by 2024, with park openings in 2025 followed by housing development.
