The BC government has issued housing supply targets for a second group of 10 municipalities, including the City of North Vancouver, Kelowna, and Surrey. Initially announced in late April, the 20 municipalities were divided into two cohorts. The latest targets aim to build a total of 55,478 homes, a 41% increase from projections based on historical trends.

Here are the 5-year targets for each municipality:

  • Central Saanich: 588 homes
  • Chilliwack: 4,594 homes
  • City of North Vancouver: 3,320 homes
  • Esquimalt: 754 homes
  • Kelowna: 8,774 homes
  • Maple Ridge: 3,954 homes
  • Nanaimo: 4,703 homes
  • Sidney: 468 homes
  • Surrey: 27,256 homes
  • White Rock: 1,067 homes

Effective from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2029, these targets are part of the Housing Supply Act introduced by Premier David Eby. The province will monitor progress with annual reports required from municipalities. If targets aren’t met, the government can appoint an advisor to review and issue directives to ensure compliance. The province plans to set targets for 68-80 municipalities by 2026-2027.
