The BC government has unveiled a digital Building Permit Hub designed to streamline and standardize local permitting procedures. This innovative platform will facilitate the submission of permit applications by homeowners and industry professionals, leveraging digital technology to simplify and expedite the entire process.

One of the key features of the Building Permit Hub is its ability to automate various aspects of the permitting process. By offering automatic checks for completeness and compliance with the BC Building Code, the Hub aims to reduce delays and ensure that applications meet all necessary requirements before they are submitted to local governments. Future enhancements may include support for additional types of housing, such as secondary suites and accessory dwelling units. As part of its initial rollout, the Hub will undergo pilot testing in twelve local governments and two First Nations, allowing for feedback and refinements before it is made available provincewide.

The initiative aligns with the province’s BC Builds initiative, part of which focuses on digital solutions. By embracing digital innovation, BC aims to enhance efficiency, reduce red tape, and ultimately make it easier for people to access the housing they need.
