Kamloops is set to receive over 500 new homes and shelter spaces. B.C. Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon highlighted this as part of the Homes for People action plan, which aims to provide housing for middle—and low-to-moderate-income residents, as well as those at risk of homelessness.

Under the BC Builds program, approximately 200 homes will be introduced to a site owned by the Ministry of Citizens’ Services located at 515 and 527 Columbia St. This is the second BC Builds site in Kamloops, with the first at 377 Tranquille Ave. Additionally, two Community Housing Fund projects at 604 Lorne St. and 210 Oak Rd. will offer about 80 affordable rental units for individuals, families, seniors, and people with disabilities.

To address homelessness, 98 supportive housing units will be installed at 769-845 Mission Flats Rd., replacing the existing 54 units. A 40-bed year-round shelter for seniors and older adults experiencing homelessness is also planned at 1055 Glenfair Dr. Furthermore, a 22-bed transition house for women and children leaving violence will be developed.

These projects contribute to the B.C. government’s $19-billion housing investment, which has delivered or initiated nearly 80,000 homes since 2017, including over 1,800 in Kamloops. Construction will begin in the coming months, with occupancy targeted for 2025.
