The Government of BC has acquired a 37-acre site in Surrey for a new SkyTrain operations and maintenance centre (OMC5). This centre, located at 17916 Fraser Highway in North Cloverdale, will be essential for the Expo and Millennium lines. OMCs serve as operational hubs for train cleaning, maintenance, and repairs.

OMC5 will be positioned between the future Bakerview-166 Street and Hillcrest-184 Street stations on the Surrey-Langley Expo Line extension. The site was purchased for $8 million in November 2023, and its agricultural designation was removed shortly after. This OMC will enhance the SkyTrain network’s capacity and reliability as it expands.

OMC5 is expected to cost over $1 billion, with construction starting in 2027. It complements the new OMC4 in Coquitlam, which is under construction and costs around $300 million. Both OMC4 and OMC5 will be comparable in size to the existing OMC1 in Burnaby. These facilities are critical for the arrival of new Mark V trains and overall SkyTrain system efficiency.
