Peel Region has unveiled Birch Place in Brampton, featuring 67 affordable rental units for individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Located at 5 Rutherford Rd. S., this development transformed a hotel from 1984 into bachelor and one-bedroom apartments. Seventeen units are dedicated to transitional housing for youth aged 16 to 24.

Birch Place provides essential services and support, and its central location offers convenient access to transit, amenities, and job opportunities. The complex includes outdoor amenity spaces, indoor program areas for youth, bike racks, common laundry, an indoor multi-purpose room, and barrier-free units with accessible features like push-button entry and roll-in showers.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown emphasized the city’s commitment to expanding housing availability, including affordable, townhouses, condominiums, and single-family homes. Funded through the federal Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI), Birch Place is part of a $53.3 million investment announced in July 2022 to create 113 affordable units in Peel Region.
