In September 2023, the Province set housing targets for the first 10 priority communities. The six-month interim report reveals progress towards annual housing targets across various municipalities, factoring in policy actions, initiatives, and partnerships aimed at boosting housing supply.

Here’s the progress breakdown:

  • Victoria: 114% of 659 units
  • Port Moody: 90% of 231 units
  • District of North Vancouver: 78% of 499 units
  • Kamloops: 45% of 679 units
  • Saanich: 44% of 440 units
  • Abbotsford: 39% of 1,022 units
  • Vancouver: 31% of 5,202 units
  • Delta: 22% of 514 units
  • District of West Vancouver: 18% of 220 units
  • Oak Bay: 12.5% of 56 units

Municipalities are taking several key actions to meet housing targets. These include updating zoning bylaws and implementing new standards for small-scale multi-unit housing and transit-oriented development, revising Official Community Plans to boost residential density, and identifying municipal lands for affordable housing projects and BC Builds opportunities.

These efforts amongst others demonstrate a comprehensive approach to addressing housing supply challenges, with some municipalities exceeding their targets while others are making significant strides in laying the groundwork for future progress.

Recently, the Province also released new targets for additional municipalities that were announced in April.
