Thunderbird Manor – Phase 2 has opened in Vernon, offering 35 new affordable homes for Indigenous individuals, families, and Elders. Supported by the Indigenous Housing Fund, the five-story building provides one- to four-bedroom units, including nine fully accessible homes. Another highlight is the inclusion of homes adaptable for aging residents, ensuring comfort as they grow older.

Additionally, three one-bedroom units are designated for independent youth aged 16 to 19, with support services funded by the Ministry of Children and Family Development Services Agreement. Operated by the Vernon Native Housing Society, this expansion complements Thunderbird Manor – Phase 1, providing a total of 73 units tailored for Indigenous families, seniors, youth, and individuals with mobility challenges.

This initiative aligns with British Columbia’s broader $19-billion housing investment, addressing housing needs across the province. Since 2017, nearly 78,000 homes have been delivered or are underway, including over 600 in Vernon. Through programs like the Building BC: Indigenous Housing Fund, over 1,500 homes have opened, are under construction, or in development province-wide since 2018.
