Burnaby’s Metrotown is set for a major transformation, showcased in a new public engagement website by developer IvanhoĂ© Cambridge. The plan aims to turn the area around BC’s largest mall into a lively downtown core while retaining part of the mall. The proposal includes a new city park, improved streets, and new shops across 35 acres. Phase 1, spanning 30 years, plans to introduce 10,000 market units and 2,000 affordable rentals. Future phases will follow after lease agreements with anchor tenants expire.

The vision aligns with Burnaby’s established Downtown Plan, emphasizing connectivity and community engagement. Plans for enhanced transportation include new roads, mobility hubs, and a pedestrian bridge. The proposal also prioritizes green spaces, with plans for plazas, parks, and public art installations. Residents have until April 22 to provide feedback on the plan.
