Pickering Airport Plan Scrapped for Park Space

The Canadian government has abandoned plans to build a new airport on the 7,000-hectare Pickering Airport Lands outside Toronto, initially acquired in the 1970s. New plans call for park space managed by Parks Canada. Transport Canada states the land will undergo a formal public consultation to determine its exact use.

5 Towers Proposed to Replace Commercial Plaza in Pickering

A major development proposal in Pickering aims to transform a commercial plaza at 705 Kingston Road into a dense mixed-use project with five residential towers ranging from 28 to 35 storeys. This project will feature 1,748 units, 3,922m² of retail space, and increased connectivity via the Durham-Scarborough BRT line.

Starlight Acquires Apartment Building in Pickering

Starlight Investments has acquired a new 12-storey, 227-unit apartment building at 1475 Whites Road in Pickering, part of its growing GTA portfolio. The property features modern amenities, including EV charging stations, a fitness center, and outdoor spaces. Units range from one- to three-bedroom layouts.

Pickering Plans to Reapply for Provincial Funding

Pickering is making a second attempt to secure funding from Ontario's Housing Accelerator Fund. After being denied in 2023, the city plans to apply again, aiming to boost residential growth by at least 10%. Pickering recently exceeded housing targets, adding 1,502 units and earning a $5.2 million bonus.

Pickering has successfully met its 2024 provincial housing targets six months early, with 1,533 new housing units completed by the end of June, surpassing its goal by 58%. Pickering is the only Durham municipality to meet these targets so far, with Clarington, Oshawa, and Ajax trailing behind.

High-Rise Master Plan to Replace The Shops at Pickering Ridge

A new high-rise community, the Pickering Design Centre, is proposed along Highway 401 near Pickering and Ajax GO stations. This multi-phased project by Bayfield Realty will span seven blocks featuring buildings up to 43 storeys, 5,249 units, and a central park. Phase 1 completion is planned for 2026.
