March Sales Up 25% in the Interior Housing Market

The Interior housing market report for March revealed a 25.1% increase in residential sales from February and an 11.9% rise from last March. Inventory also grew, with over 3,000 active listings in Central Okanagan. Benchmark prices increased in most categories, notably a $49,900 rise in North Okanagan townhouses.

North Okanagan Approves DCC Increases After 20 Years

At a recent board meeting, the Regional District of North Okanagan approved a phased increase in water development cost charges. This is the first DCC update in 20 years. Rates will rise over two years across various land uses, with the highest increase for single-family units, from $2,180 to $6,307 per unit.

Vernon Launches Tool to View Active Development Projects

The City of Vernon has introduced an interactive online tool, the Current Development Mapping Tool, allowing residents to view active development applications. Developed over the past year by city staff using the development application process review budget, it offers easy access to up-to-date project information. 

Okanagan Market Has a Strong Start to the Year

The Interior BC real estate markets saw increased sales and new listings, surpassing levels from December and January 2024. Benchmark prices increased across the Okanagan and Shuswap/Revelstoke regions, with the highest increase of 11% seen in South Okanagan. Kamloops prices dipped across all property types.

Vernon Approves Initial Plan for 4,000-Home Development

Vernon City Council has approved initial plans for a housing plan by Kerkhoff Develop-Build for 4,000 homes, including 1,800 affordable units. The project on 421 hectares near downtown Vernon will come to fruition over the next 10+ years. It will help address the city's housing gap, estimated at approximately 2,800 units.

Vernon Council Approves 85-Unit Project in East Hill

Vernon City Council approved a zoning amendment for an 85-unit townhouse project at 1600 15th Street. The 4.45-hectare development includes semi-detached, three-plex, and four-plex units. Council raised concerns about street parking. Conditions for final approval include public access adjustments and park land dedication.
