Saanich Council Advances Contentious 187-Unit Project

Despite community divisions, the Central Saanich council approved the first three readings of a 187-unit rental project along Hovey Road. Aryze Developments, in partnership with Legion Manor Victoria, aims to provide affordable rentals for seniors, veterans, and families. Council voted 4-3, with Mayor Windsor undecided.

An additional $30,000 from the Housing Accelerator Fund is allocated for an additional round of public engagement.

Saanich Approves Rezoning for 122-Unit Project

Saanich council unanimously approved rezoning six dwellings into two 6-storey complexes, adding 122 units on McKenzie Avenue and Annie Street. These will include both condos and rentals, with 127 parking spaces. The developer will contribute $351,360 to local amenities, affordable housing, and park acquisition.

Saanich Extends Permits, Paving Way for 470 Housing Units

Saanich council extended development permits for two major projects until January 2027, amid challenges like high interest rates and costs. The 1555 McKenzie Ave. site will feature a six-storey building with 384 rentals and commercial space, while the Torquay Dr. project plans 86 residential units.

Notably, Oak Bay features the priciest single-family home at $17.3 million. Overall, the Island's total property value increased to nearly $391 billion from $386 billion.

Saanich Approves New Mixed-Use Building on Quadra St.

Saanich council approved the rezoning of 4079 Quadra St. for a mixed-use building featuring dental offices and four rental apartments. The 1,369-square-metre property, a former gas station, will be rezoned from C-9 to C-4. The project includes a $10,000 community amenity contribution and a rental covenant of at least 10 years.
