Costco plans to open two additional stores in Metro Vancouver, including the region's first Costco Business Centre in New Westminster's Queensborough area. This new 142,400 sq. ft. location, repurposing a former Lowe's, targets business customers with bulk and specialized products. The city has issued a development permit for the site at 1085 Tanaka Court.

Vancouver’s I4 Property Group Faces Insolvency on 2 Projects

Vancouver-based I4 Property Group faces insolvency on two condo and townhome projects, Siena in Burnaby and 8and8 in New Westminster. Desjardins Group initiated receivership for the $17.7M Siena debt. Blueshore Financial foreclosed on 8and8, with a $2.47M debt. The 8and8 site has been listed for $3,649,000.

New West Approves 8-Tower Columbia Square Project

New West has approved the Columbia Square project, a master-planned, transit-oriented community featuring 3,800 homes, including 800 market rental and 139 affordable units, along with two daycares, a school, and ample retail, office, and park space. The development will contribute a record $100 million in financial contributions.

2 Towers Proposed for Prime Corner in New West

A redevelopment proposal is being considered for the Royal Towers Hotel site in New Westminster. The city has received applications to build 30 to 40-storey towers at the corner of Sixth Street and Royal Avenue. The site currently houses a seven-storey 1961 building in the Columbia Station TOD area.

BC Grants SSMUH Zoning Extensions to 21 Communities

BC has granted extensions to 21 communities to comply with new housing laws. The original deadline was June 30. The extensions, ranging from 2024 to 2030, include Coquitlam, Richmond, North Vancouver, and Kamloops. Maple Ridge, Township of Langley, Sooke, and others were denied extensions.

Big Changes Proposed for New West’s 22nd Street Neighbourhood

New Westminster has approved a draft plan called reGENERATE for the 22nd Street neighbourhood, emphasizing increased housing density and choice. The plan aims to provide a diverse mix of affordable, energy-efficient homes centred around the SkyTrain station. The full build-out of the vision could accommodate over 30,000 new residents.
